What should you pay attention to when choosing the narrator/studio?

First of all, the choice of the narrator/studio depends on whether the voice corresponds to what you have imagined for your audiobook and whether the offer is within your budget. If you want to attend the recordings and maybe even direct it yourself, it may be  better if the distance between you and the studio is not too far.

How expensive is such a production usually?

Unfortunately, this question cannot be generalized. Certainly a well-known professional speaker costs much more than a not so well-known and the studio prices fluctuate strongly. In principle, however, you can assume that something between 6 and 12 cents per word accrues. If you only need a narrator (without external studio), you can set a guideline value of 300 € per finished audio hour, sometimes less for newcomers and more for well-known narrators.

Beware of dumping offers (like on some other freelancer websites). Most of the providers do not have sufficient technical equipment or do not have the appropriate know-how.  The makers of All Around Audiobooks are true audio professionals. If the delivered quality is not sufficient in your opinion, you can send us excerpts for checking. We will then contact the speaker/studio if necessary and work for a solution.

How cheap can it be now? Why is it cheaper?

It depends on the situation. If a narrator has no jobs at the moment, or if a production has been canceled at short notice, he is more likely to make a favorable offer, which may then also be linked to a very short recording period. All Around Audiobooks is a good opportunity for narrators and studios to offer their free last-minute appointments cheaply without generally breaking their prices. A classic win-win situation.

How does it work exactly? How long will it take for my audiobook to be finished?

Experienced narrators need approximately 3 times the recording time, based on the playing time of the finished audio book.  Depending on the text and narrator, approximately 2.5 to 3 hours of finished audiobooks can be recorded per studio day. That corresponds to about 20-30,000 words. The post-production then usually takes another 2 days, so you can say that an audiobook with a playing time of 2.5-3 hours can be finished in about 3 days.  For a novel with 120,000 words, you should expect a production time of 2-3 weeks.

How and when do I have to pay?

You can pay with PayPal or credit card, when using the PayPal Plus function.  All Around Audiobooks supports the Escrow/E-wallet system, i.e. the paid money is “parked” until the narrator or the studio has “carried out” the job and you as the client have marked the project as “done”. In this case, you pay the agreed amount in advance by credit card or PayPal, so that your account is already debited. Your service provider will then see the receipt of payment in the e-wallet of his account, but cannot have the money paid out before your confirmation. If there is a problem during the execution phase (e.g. that the narrator is sick and does not sound good, or the quality of the recordings is simply not sufficient or chapters have even been forgotten), you can contact the All Around Audiobooks support, which will then take care of the matter.  Since we only have sound engineers, we know exactly what to look (hear) for in order to assess the quality.  We will then try to mediate and find a good solution.

What do I have to watch out for?

When choosing the narrator, make sure that the voice matches the book. If you are not sure, also ask friends or other authors. It is best to have a recorded page of your book sent to you as a sample.  References are helpful with regard to the recording quality of the studio, but newcomers are not necessarily a bad choice if they understand their craft. The following also here applies: Have a test recording sent in advance, if requested by you later, already mastered (i.e. volume fluctuations are compensated and the overall volume level is increased).

Are there any additional fees?

No. All fees are already included in the offers. You only pay the agreed price.

Where and how can I advertise it and how expensive will it be?

How and where you can or should advertise depends entirely on your target group. If you offer your audiobook through Amazon, you should e.g. link to your eBook or the printed edition and advertise on Amazon. Other good options are always Facebook Ads and Google AdWords. It is also a good idea to distribute teasers on YouTube and produce an Instagram story.

Normally, ads are paid by click and the costs per click depent on the keyword. You can set a maximum budget per day and overall.
